Des Moines Buccaneers News Release
The Des Moines Buccaneers cycled the puck well on their first Mid-American Energy power play opportunity and it was finished off by David Keefer who snuck one past Tri-City goaltender Jake Kielly low stick-side with assists given to Chris Allemon and Ty Pelton-Byce getting assists on Keefer's 8th goal on the year. Jan Ruzicka made 16 saves for Des Moines to keep Tri-City off the scoreboard, Kielly made 13 saves on 14 shots on goal.
Tri-City would counter early in the second when Mattias Goransson unloaded a blast from the left point that was tipped in by Joe Cipollone between the pads of Ruzicka just 2:42 into the second. Back and forth action was capped off by Tri-City as Wade Allison slammed home a pass from his left and while it looked to go in off his skates no kicking motion was seen and the goal put Tri-City on top 12:22 into the second. The Buccaneers answered at 18:37 of the period when Kenny Hausinger absorbed a hit along the left wing boards and stuck with the play, feeding it over to Justin Howell who came to the net with speed and put it past Kielly. The two teams were tied after two periods and Des Moines held the slight edge in shots on goal 27-26.
Zach Jordan gave the Buccaneers a 3-2 lead 4:59 into the 3rd period as he scored from quite a ways away from Kielly up against the right wing boards, but that was the last time Des Moines could manage to get one past Tri-City. Goransson scored for Tri-City 47 seconds later on the power play to tie the game at three and the game winning goal came from the stick of Monte Graham as the puck was slid through the crease to him and he buried it in tight from Ruzicka's right. Carson Meyer scored the final two goals of the night, his 15th and 16th of the season, including an empty netter to seal the win. The two teams each had 40 shots on goal, Ruzicka ended up with 34 saves on the night, Kielly 37.
The Buccaneers are next in action on Monday at 3 p.m. Central Time on the road against the Bloomington Thunder.
