Sioux Falls Stampede News Release

Omaha, NE-The Sioux Falls Stampede looked like they may make yet another come-from-behind victory Saturday night, but they came up short in a 5-3 loss to the Omaha Lancers at Ralston Arena. Trailing 4-2 early in the third period, Parker Tuomie scored with 4:05 remaining in regulation to pull the Herd within a goal, but a Lancers empty net goal in the final seconds put the game away and the Herd fell for the sixth time in their last seven games (1-5-1). Csanad Erdely and Lean Bergmann scored goals while Ales Stezka stopped 30 of 34 shots in the loss. The Herd are now 17-15-2 and in fourth place in the Western Conference, one point behind Omaha (17-13-3).

The Stampede were awarded an early power play in the game, but it was the Lancers who took advantage just 2:48 into the game. Brian Williams took a pass up the right wing boards and quickly glided into the Herd zone where he wristed a shot that was stopped by Stampede goaltender Ales Stezka, but the rebound bounced to Nick Rivera who tapped the puck and then crashed into Stezka, sending the puck and Stezka into the net which caused the net to come off. The Herd argued that the goal should not have counted, but the goal would stand and the Herd found themselves down 1-0. The Herd would outshot the Lancers 8-6 in the period, but trail 1-0 after one.

Sioux Falls wasted little time to get on the board in the second when Csanad Erdely tallied his second goal of the season. Daniel Warpecha wristed a shot that was stopped by Omaha goaltender Zackarias Skog, but the rebound bounced in the crease and was batted in by Erdely at 1:34 of the second. It stayed that way until the 9:15 mark when Omaha regained the lead on the power play. Brannon McManus wristed a shot in the slot that beat Stezka through the five-hole to give the Lancers a 2-1 edge. Just over three minutes later the Lancers added to their lead when Austin Lemieux sent a pass to the edge of the right circle where Nick Jenny wristed the puck and it bounced through the five-hole of Stezka to give Omaha a 3-1 lead. Just over 30 seconds later the Herd got right back into the game when Lean Bergmann took a pass from Jack Doremus and fired a shot past the stick side of Skog to cut the Lancers lead in half at 3-2. Omaha outshot the Herd 13-10 in the period.

The Lancers regained their two goal lead just 2:12 into the third period when Nathan Krusko found the back of the net to give Omaha a 4-2 advantage. The Herd would battle hard to try and get back into the game, but it remained a two goal game until the 15:55 mark when Parker Tuomie tallied his 19th goal of the season. Tuomie skated with the puck from the neutral zone and broke down the left wing boards into the left circle where he blasted a shot that went off the glove of the goaltender Skog and bounced behind him and into the net to pull the Herd back within a goal. The Herd would pull Stezka late in the game for an extra attacker to apply some pressure, but the Lancers ended the game for good when Josh French scored on the empty net with just 12 seconds remaining. Omaha outshot the Herd 14-12 and 35-30 in the game. The Lancers were 1-for-3 on the power play and tallied a shorthanded goal while the Stampede were 0-for-3 with the advantage.

The Herd continue their five-game road swing next Friday and Saturday night when they travel to Green Bay to face the Gamblers at 7:05 PM. Fans can listen live on KELO News Talk 1320-AM, 107.9-FM, KELO.COM or watch online at FASTHOCKEY.COM.
