Lowell, Mass. - The Providence Bruins (27-19-1-2) scored four third period goals en route to a 5-1 win over the Lowell Lock Monsters (20-25-4-4) at Tsongas Arena Wednesday night. The win put the Bruins nine points ahead of the Monsters in the Atlantic Division standings.

Both teams struggled for offensive chances in the opening frame.. The Lock Monsters failed to convert on an early power play, but later killed off a big two-man advantage in the first period for nearly a minute and a half. As it was, Providence outshot Lowell 13-8 in the opening frame, but G Craig Kowalski for the Monsters and Jordan Sigalet for the Bruins kept it scoreless.

Providence controlled the tempo in the second period, holding the Monsters to just one shot through the first 11 minutes of the frame. They put home the first goal of the game when Pascal Pelletier flipped a rebound to the top shelf at 12:15. Former UMass-Lowell C Ben Walter picked up the lone assist. The crowd got into it when Cody McLeod engaged in fisticuffs with former Lock Monster Sean Curry in the final moments of the second, but the Monsters trailed 1-0 through 40 minutes.

Lowell started the third period on the power play but surrendered the second goal of the night just 25 seconds in. Nate Thompson threw a pass toward the Monsters net, but it appeared to deflect off a Lowell player and past Kowalski to make it 2-0. Lowell lit the lamp on a power play 4:00 into the third. Paul Healey's blast found its way under Sigalet to chip away at the lead. The Bruins pushed the lead back to two with a power play goal at 8:33 by David Lundbohm. Pelletier recorded his second of the night off a Lowell turnover to make it 4-1, and Ben Guite closed out the scoring to provide the final margin.
