Barons sign defensemen Johnson and Murphy

CLEVELAND - Cleveland Barons General Manager Wayne Thomas announced today that the club has signed defensemen Trevor Johnson and Cory Murphy to professional tryout contracts.

Johnson has appeared in 43 games for the Muskegon Fury (UHL) this season. He currently leads all Fury defenders and is 3rd among UHL defensemen with 40 points (7-33-40).

Murphy began the season with the Fresno Falcons of the ECHL, where he has accrued ten goals and 25 assists for 35 points in 38 games. He currently ranks 5th among league defensemen in points and assists and ranks 2nd among ECHL defenseman with eight power play goals. He also leads all ECHL defensemen with 26 power play points.

The Barons nine game home stand continues with games Thursday and Friday night at 7pm. Thursday features a pivotal North Division match up against the Toronto Marlies. Friday the Barons take on the Chicago Wolves. The first 3,000 fans in attendance will receive a free authentically autographed Garrett Stafford action photo.
