Madison Mallards News Release
Madison, Wis. - Maintaining sole possession of second place in the South Division after splitting a two-game set in Wisconsin Rapids, field manager Donnie Scott and the Madison Mallards (9-6, 29-21) will travel home to the Duck Pond for the opener of a home series with the Lakeshore Chinooks (7-11, 24-26) on Thursday. Tonight's 7:05 p.m. contest will be the first of two for Madison against Lakeshore with less than a week remaining until the All-Star break.
Last night, the Mallards earned a 6-1 victory over the Rafters behind another impressive performance from starting pitcher A.J. Bogucki (North Carolina), who ceded just one unearned run over five innings in which he allowed just two hits and struck out four Rafters hitters. Charlie Cody (Virginia), Anthony Gonsolin (St. Mary's College) and Cameron Frost (Washington State) each tallied doubles in the winning effort, while Jean Ramirez (Illinois State) notched his seventh multi-hit game of the second half.
Searching for another quality outing on the mound, the Mallards will turn to Logan Browning (Florida) to make his second start of the summer in tonight's series opener against the Chinooks. Browning, a 5-foot-7 southpaw from Lakeland, Fla., enters tonight's contest on the heels of a rough outing against La Crosse on July 13 in which he allowed four earned runs across two innings. Overall, Browning is 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA and strikeout-to-walk ratio of 6:3 across 8.1 inning on the mound, and is batting
To counter, Lakeshore will task right-handed pitcher Luke Bachar (UW-Whitewater) with his ninth start of the 2015 season. Bachar, a 6-foot-3 righty from Wheaton, Ill., brings into tonight's contest a 4-2 record, 1.92 ERA and 0.84 WHIP across 46.2 frames for the Chinooks, including an impressive 50:10 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Opponents have managed a .173 batting average against him.
Thursday's Roster Moves - The Mallards have waived right-handed pitchers Westin Wuethrich (Madison College) and Hever Bueno (Arizona State). In response, the team has signed right-handed pitcher Justin Watts (Northern Kentucky) to the active roster. Watts, who stands at 6-foot-3, joins the Mallards roster after a collegiate season in which he posted a 6.94 ERA with 27 strikeouts across a total of 35 innings.
Thursday will be Waterpark Night with a Kalahari Resort Indoor Theme Park Pass Giveaway to the first 500 fans through the gates.
