Northwoods Lakeshore Chinooks

Chinooks, Mallards Suspended In 2nd

July 16, 2015 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Lakeshore Chinooks News Release

The Lakeshore Chinooks broke out to a 12-0 win over the Kalamazoo Growlers on Wednesday, and it looked like they were going to keep things going as they traveled to Madison on Thursday. However, with the Chinooks up on the Mallards 2-0 in the bottom of the second, a hard downpour rolled in and the game was suspended at that point.

It did not take long for the Chinooks to get on the board. In the top of the first, leadoff batter Anthony Massicci (Canisius) drove a ball down the left field line that turned into a hustle double. He came around to score when the next batter, Eric Fasnacht (Concordia- St. Paul) drove him in with a single. Lakeshore proceed to put runners on second and third when Zarley Zalewski (Kent State) singled and advanced to second on the play. Fasnacht then came around to score his team's second and final run of the frame when cleanup batter Doug Kraeger (Richmond) grounded into a fielder's choice.

All-Star Lake Bachar (UW-Whitewater) was the starter for the Chinooks. He threw a scoreless first inning and came back out in the second to walk the first batter he saw before the rain put the contest in a delay.

The game will be resumed tomorrow as part of a doubleheader. The two teams will pick this one up right where they left off before facing off in their regularly-scheduled game, which will be shortened to seven innings. Game one is set to start at 5:05 p.m. with game two set to begin about 30 minutes thereafter.
