Kalamazoo Growlers News Release

KALAMAZOO, MI - 10 to five, three to one. That is how many hits the La Crosse Loggers had versus Kalamazoo and the latter is how many runs each team scored.

The starting pitcher for the Loggers (11-7,30-22), Kevin Flemer (Oregon State) only allowed four hits and one earned run over his seven innings work, while striking out three.

His only blemish came in the fifth inning. After three straight Growlers led off with singles, loading the bases, Justin Fletcher (Northern Illinois) hit a sacrifice fly which scored John Soteropulos (Cal) from third.

Flemer settled down, though, getting the next two batters out to keep the game 3-1.

Kalamazoo's (5-13,13-40) starter, Josh Alberius (Arkansas) struck out five in his four innings of work, and only walked two, but allowed three runs off of four hits.

The most damaging hit Alberius allowed came in the fourth. Jordan Zimmerman (Mesa CC) started the inning with a single. The next batter, catcher Chris Baker (Washington), hit a two run home run capping off the runs scored for the Loggers and proving to be the final difference.

The relievers for the Growlers kept Kalamazoo in the game, but the offense couldn't pick up the slack.

Derek Schneider (Western Michigan) allowed six hits in his 3.1 innings , but no runs scored. The second and final reliever, Aaron Tadian (Kent State), walked two, but no hits and no runs, in his 1.2 innings.
