Broncos Put up Five Goals in Loss to Raiders

Saturday night marked the back half of a home-and-home set vs. the Prince Albert Raiders and after an eventful Friday night in which the Broncos lost 6-4 in a very physical outing, the latest chapter of Broncos vs. Raiders was full of offence and intense play once again.
Sean Montgomery opened the scoring for the Raiders at the 4:48 mark to give Prince Albert a 1-0 lead but a new face in Swift Current responded. 16-year-old forward Dawson Springer coming off a fresh signed contract with the Swift Current Broncos scored his first career WHL goal in his WHL debut.
Raiders forward Justin Nachbaur countered on the power play, potting his eighth of the season while Kody McDonald and Kaiden Guhle gathered assists.
Broncos forward Ethan O'Rourke knotted the game 2-2 as he fired a good wrist shot while entering the zone with line mate Ian Briscoe, beating Raiders goalie Donovan Buskey for his second of the season.
Entering the second period, the Broncos scored early to grab a 3-2 lead as Joona Kiviniemi found himself in the right place at the right time, gobbling up a rebound chance and putting the puck in the bank to collect his ninth marker on the year.
Kiviniemi then set up Matthew Culling at the 6:08 mark as Swift Current doubled their lead to 4-2, chasing Buskey from the Raiders cage. Brett Balas entered the game in relief of Buskey.
The 4-2 lead wasn't safe for the Broncos unfortunately as the Raiders netted four straight goals throughout an 11 minute span in the second period, including a pair of goals from Noah Gregor and one each from Ozzy Wiesblatt and Nachbaur's second of the night.
Shots on goal were a heavy 41-12 margin for Prince Albert but the Broncos were hanging around only down a pair going into the third.
Alec Zawatsky netted his team-leading 11th goal on a Broncos power play 3:31 into the third, allowing his team plenty of time to get in position to try to get one more goal and tie it up. Alex Moar and Connor Horning picked up assists on the play. For Horning, the assist marked his second straight outing of recording multiple points on the score sheet.
Parker Kelly buried an insurance marker for Prince Albert midway through the third and Swift Current ended up on the losing side in a 7-5 defeat.
Shots on goal were 56-18 in favour of Prince Albert. Swift Current went 1/2 on the power play while Prince Albert finished 2/6.
The Swift Current Broncos now head into the Christmas break with the first half of the 2018-19 campaign in the books. The club returns to action on December 27th when they take on the Moose Jaw Warriors on the road. Puck drop is set for 7:00pm CT.
