Americans Make Late Comeback, Earn 3-2 Overtime Victory over Winterhawks

The Americans and Winterhawks matched up tonight at the Toyota Center for the second time in the eight-game series between the two teams this season.

Forward Booker Daniel made his WHL debut tonight. The 17-year-old Americans prospect has tallied 20 points (9 goals, 11 assists) in 12 games with the Cariboo Cougars (BCMML) this season.

After a spirited first period the game remained scoreless. Joachim Blichfeld opened scoring, shorthanded, with his 30th goal of the season at 18:27 second period giving Portland a 1-0 lead.

Tri-City was trailing 2-0 in the third period when Nolan Yaremko put the Americans on the board with a shot from the corner, assisted by Paycen Bjorklund. Yaremko scored again to tie the game with only 10 seconds remaining, assisted by Parker AuCoin and Kyle Olson.

Beck Warm saved the game for Tri-City with four big stops early into overtime. Defenseman Aaron Hyman was tonight's hero for the Americans. He scored at 3:26, assisted by Connor Bouchard and Sasha Mutala to seal the comeback victory.

The Americans and Winterhawks both finished the game with 34 shots on goal.
