Broncos Fight Back Three Times, But Drop OT Game in Red Deer

RED DEER, AB. - The Swift Current Broncos (10-47-2-3) fought back to tie the game three times against the Red Deer Rebels (23-33-2-3) Saturday night, couldn't complete the comeback and fell 4-3 in overtime.

Red Deer opened the scoring on the first shot of the game for either team. Josh Tarzwell entered the Broncos zone on a two-on-two rush before slowing up and cutting to the slot and using the other three players as a screen to beat Isaac Poulter on the glove side.

The Broncos would pull even early in the second period as Aiden Bulych dug a rebound loose off the pad of Ethan Anders to knock home his 14th of the season. D-Jay Jerome and Tyler Smithies drew assists on the goal.

The Broncos got their first power play just seconds after the goal, but couldn't capitalize despite plenty of zone time, and Red Deer regained their lead shortly after the penalty expired.

The puck bounced into the skates of Kaleb Bulych in the Broncos zone before Arshdeep Bains knocked it loose and centred for Ben King who restored Red Deer's lead.

The Broncos once again pulled even with Sergei Alkhimov, celebrating his 19th birthday, fired a shot through traffic off the rush and beat Anders on the glove side to tie the game.

In the final minute of the second, the Rebels took their third lead of the night with Tarzwell using a defenceman as a screen and firing a shot past Poulter to give Red Deer a 3-2 lead through 40 minutes.

Matthew Benson made a great play to set up the tying goal with less than five minutes to go in the third. After faking a shot from the top of the right circle, Benson slide the puck to the slot for Hayden Ostir who chopped it on net and beat Anders on the glove side the tie the game for the third time.

In overtime, the Broncos had a tough time getting clean control of the puck, and the Rebels ended the game with Bains sending the puck backdoor for King off the rush, who scored his second of the game to win it for the Rebels.

The Broncos look for revenge Wednesday when the host the Rebels.
