Hughes Shuts the Door as ICE Beat Raiders 3-0

March 8, 2020 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Winnipeg Ice News Release

The Prince Albert Raiders were in town for an Eastern Division clash with the ICE. The Raiders started the day first in the division as the ICE were looking to close the gap between the teams.

It was a scoreless first frame, as both teams had multiple chances but both goalies came up big for their respective teams. Liam Hughes made 11 saves for the ICE in the first as his counterpart Carter Serhyenko made 9 for the Raiders. Each team had one power-play opportunity in the frame.

The second period was more of the same with both goalies keeping their shutout streak alive as the ICE out-shot the Raiders 10-9 in the period.

The ICE finally broke the deadlock in the third period as Peyton Krebs sniped his 12th of the season over the right shoulder of Serhyenko. Isaac Johnson would add an insurance goal as well as an empty netter to lead the ICE to a 3-0 victory, with Liam Hughes making 34 saves for his second shutout of the season.

The ICE are on the road in Regina on Wednesday night before heading home for a crucial weekend where they play Saskatoon on Friday, and Regina on Saturday. Puck drop for Friday's game is 7:30pm at the ICE Cave in Wayne Fleming Arena.
