Swift Current Broncos News Release
Red Deer, Alta. - The Swift Current Broncos (11-14-2-1) had a tough night on the road against the Red Deer Rebels (18-9-1-1) Wednesday night, falling 6-1.
It was a slow start to the game with neither team recording a shot on net for the opening five minutes. That included a Broncos power play 2:29 after puck drop.
Red Deer opened the scoring just over the halfway mark of the period. Christofer Sedoff pinched in from the left point and took a pass from Arshdeep Bains. Sedoff then slid the puck to the slot for Jhett Larson who beat Isaac Poulter through the five hole to open the scoring.
The Rebels added to their lead just over six minutes later when Trey Patterson sent the puck to Ben King in front of the net who slid it into the open cage. The Rebels led 2-0 after 20 minutes.
Red Deer's lead was pushed to 3-0 as the Rebels forced a few turnovers in the Broncos end before Kai Uchacz jumped on a rebound 5:32 into the second period.
Josh Filmon got the Broncos on the board after taking a centering pass from Connor Hvidston from behind the net, beating Connor Ungar with his 11th goal of the season 10:02 into the middle frame.
Kyle Masters restored the Rebels three-goal lead in the final minute of the period off a shot from the right point that came through traffic to put Red Deer ahead 4-1 after two periods.
A power play goal 7:28 into the third period put Red Deer ahead 5-1 before the Rebels rounded out the scoring with 1:51 left in regulation. Final shots read 40-15 Rebels.
The Broncos now turn their attention to the Edmonton Oil Kings (20-6-2-1) for a pair of games Friday and Saturday.
