Swift Current Broncos News Release

SWIFT CURRENT, SK - The Swift Current Broncos (3-7-1-2) returned home to the Innovation Credit Union iPlex for one game to welcome the Brandon Wheat Kings (6-9-0-0), but didn't have much jump in a 5-1 loss.=

The Broncos opened the scoring just 5:15 into the first period. Hendrik De Klerk's shot from the left point was stopped by Ethan Kruger, but the rebound came in front for Brecon Wood who scored his third of the year.

The lead didn't last for long as Luka Burzan was the recipient of a lucky bounce off a body to tie the game just 1:40 later.

The game was 1-1 heading into the second and was pretty even, but the Wheat Kings took over in the second.

Just 45 seconds into the period Brandon scored a power play goal to set the stage for the remainder of the period. The Broncos had a tough time generating offence with just five shots on net during the period.

Riley Ginell scored his first career WHL goal at 11:45 to make it 3-1 before Ben McCartney deflected a long shot from the line three minutes later to give Brandon a 4-1 lead heading into the third.

Much like the second, the Wheat Kings added another power-play goal early in the third as Burzan scored his second of the game 1:16 into the third to cap off the scoring.

Swift Current now prepares for another five games on the road which begins Friday in Brandon for a rematch against the Wheat Kings.
