Spokane Chiefs News Release
SPOKANE, Wash. - In their lone trip to Spokane this season, the Prince Albert Raiders defeated the Chiefs 4-1 on Saturday night in the Spokane Arena scoring twice in both the first and third periods. Post Falls, Idaho native Bear Hughes scored his fifth goal of the season for the Chiefs, good for first among U.S. Division rookies.
After Prince Albert got on the board first at 9:41, the Chiefs responded at 12:31 when Luke Toporowski threaded a pass through the legs of a Raiders skater to find Hughes net-front for the goal. The score extended Hughes' point streak to four games and gave him three goals in his last four games. Prince Albert added a short-handed goal at 18:22 and carried a 2-1 lead into the first break.
Following a scoreless second, in which the Chiefs outshot the Raiders 11-4, Prince Albert scored a pair of goals 19-seconds apart, at 3:23 and 3:42 of the third. Trailing 4-1, the Chiefs replaced Campbell Arnold in net with rookie goaltender Brett Balas, who was making his Spokane Chiefs debut after being acquired from Prince Albert last week. Box Score: SPO (1) vs. PA (4)
Neither side was able to capitalize on a power play opportunity as both Spokane and Prince Albert went 0-for-3. Arnold ended the night 15-of-19 in net and Balas, who played the final 12:58, was 7-of-7. Boston Bilous was 21-for-22 for the Raiders.
