Broncos Drop Lopsided Game to Brandon

SWIFT CURRENT, SK. - The Swift Current Broncos (10-43-1-3) were a step behind the Brandon Wheat Kings (32-21-4-2) most of the night in a 9-1 loss on Wednesday.

The Wheat Kings opened the scoring 4:21 into the game as Connor Gutenberg took a drop pass off the rush and beat Isaiah DiLaura over the glove.

Brandon added to their lead late in the period when Dom Schmiemman hammered a one timer from the blue line with 2:03 to go in the first. Shots read 17-5 Brandon after one.

The Wheat Kings added two more goals off the sticks of Ridley Greig and Ben McCartney in the opening four minutes before the Broncos got on the board.

After an extended shift in the Broncos zone, Justin Svenson's shot from the right circle beat a screened Jiri Patera 7:47 into the period. Aiden Bulych and Parker Hendren recorded the assists.

Brandon quickly regained their four-goal advantage as Chad Nychuk and Luka Burzan scored 2:31 apart to give the Wheat Kings a 6-1 lead heading into the third.

Brandon kept their foot on the gas pedal, adding three more goals in the third to take the game 9-1, handing the Broncos their 12th loss in a row. Final shots read 46-20.

The Broncos will search for answers Friday night when they head to Mosaic Place to play the Moose Jaw Warriors (12-39-4-0).

Announced attendance was 1,795.
