Brockton takes first two from New Jersey

Brockton, MA - In a span of three hours the Brockton Rox took defeated the New Jersey Jackals twice. First, the Rox finished Friday night's suspended game with a 3-2 win in fourteen innings, before defeating the Jackals 7-3 in Saturday's regularly scheduled contest.

The first game of the night began in the bottom of the 12th inning in a 2-2 tie. The game started on Friday night and was tied at 2-2 when the game was suspended. It took 14 innings, but the Rox pulled out a 3-2 win when 2B Melvin Falu scored on a passed ball with two outs and two strikes on 1B Jason Colson. Earlier in the game, Falu broke the Can-Am League record for hits in a single season with his 136th hit of the year.

In the regularly scheduled Saturday night contest, Brockton got on the board first on DH Phillip Cuadrado's solo home run to deep right centerfield in the third inning. Two innings later, tied at 1-1, LF Jud Thigpen hit his 16th home run of the season with a solo shot to lead off the fifth and give the Rox a 2-1 advantage. Brockton would score two more runs in the inning on C Lee Rubin's two-run triple. Rubin's triple would turn out to be the difference in the game.

RHP Wayne Lundgren tied the Brockton Rox single season record for wins with his 11th of the year. Lundgren pitched 7.1 innings and allowed three runs on ten hits with six strikeouts. His record is 10-1 since a loss on June 3rd, the second full week of the season.

The Rox and Jackals continue the four game series with game three on Sunday evening. RHP Mike Smith (2-0, 3.29 ERA) will start for the Rox against New Jersey RHP Ted Serro (5-3, 3.69 ERA). Sunday's first pitch is scheduled for 5:05 PM.
