LF Jud Thigpen sparks offense with league-leading 5th home run

Brockton, MA (June 8, 2008) - The Brockton Rox scored six times in both the second and seventh innings en route to a 14-11 win over the Atlantic City Surf at Bernie Robbins Stadium. LHP Jacob Ramos pitched two solid innings of relief to earn his first win of the season.

Trailing 2-0 in the second inning, LF Jud Thigpen sparked the Rox offense with his league-leading 5th home run off Surf starter J.C. Huguet. Later in the inning, 2B Eugene Julien singled to right scoring C Mike Torres to tie the game. The Rox pulled ahead when CF Ervin Alcantara slapped a two-run double to extend the Rox lead to 4-2.

The Surf managed to score nine runs off starting pitcher Wayne Lundgren before the Rox offense erupted for another six-run inning in the top of the 7th. Trailing 9-7, RF Joe Frazee hit a two-run single with the bases loaded to tie the game before Alcantara singled to center to give the Rox an 11-9 advantage.

Nine different Rox hitters scored runs in the game and seven players finished with at least one RBI. Closer Jerry Dunn pitched a perfect 9th inning to record his 4th save of the season.

The Rox return to Campanelli Stadium to host the Ottawa Rapidz in the first game of a three-game series on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. Veteran RHP John Kelly (2-1, 0.46) will start for the Rox in the first game. In nearly 20 innings pitched this season, Kelly has allowed only one earned run.
