Pride ride early runs to victory

(Nashua, N.H., June 9, 2008) The Nashua Pride improved to 8-9 on the season behind staring pitcher Lance Stevens' third consecutive win. The Pride scored four times in the bottom of the first inning to jump ahead of the Jackals, and held on to win 5-2.

Stevens lasted seven innings for the third straight time, giving up two runs, one earned, on just three hits, two walks, and three strike outs.

Catcher Aregenis Tavarez continued to swing a hot bat for the Pride, going 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, an RBI, and a run scored. Third baseman Dennis Abreu also enjoyed a multiple hit night, also finishing 2-for-4 with an RBI and run.

Rich "El Guapo" Garces made his 2008 debut for Nashua, pitching an almost flawless eight inning, when he stuck out the first two batters h e faced on six pitches. He then induced a fly-out to right field to end the inning on the seventh pitch he threw. Closer Andrew Weimer notched his league leading sixth save of the season with a perfect ninth inning. Weimer has now earned saves in Nashua's last six wins.

Jackals' starter Juan Done suffered his second loss of the season, going seven innings, giving up five runs, three earned, on seven hits, one walk, and three strike outs.

The Pride and New Jersey will play game two of the three game series tomorrow evening at 7:05pm, when Nashua send Nicolas Suero (1-2) to the mound. Issac Pavlik (1-2) is scheduled to start of the Jackals.
