New Jersey Jackals News Release

Nashua, NH - The Nashua Pride jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on their way to a 5-2 series-opening win against the New Jersey Jackals on Monday night at Historic Holman Stadium. In the Nashua first, Jackals starter Juan Done walked leadoff man Vinny Pennell before the next batter, catcher Aregenis Tavarez tripled him home to make it 1-0. Second baseman Ismael Castro then drove Tavarez in with an RBI single before crossing the plate on a fielders choice to put Nashua up 3-0. In the second inning, the Jackals and Pride exchanged runs. Third baseman Chris Kelly doubled to lead off the top of the frame and scored on a groundout by designated hitter Juan Tejeda after advancing to third on a wild pitch to get the Jackals on the board. In the bottom of the inning, Pennell reached on a throwing error by Done before scoring on another throwing error by shortstop Casey Gordon to extend the Nashua lead to 5-1.

The Jackals added a run in the top of the sixth inning when shortstop Ramon Nivar scored on an RBI double by right fielder Luke Allen to cut the Pride lead to 5-2. However, that was as close as New Jersey would get.

Pride starter Lance Stevens (3-0) went seven innings to remain perfect on the season. Done (2-2) allowed five runs (three earned) on seven hits over seven inning as he took the loss. Following a scoreless inning of relief by Nashua reliever Rich Garces, Andrew Weimer pitched a perfect ninth inning for league-leading sixth save of the season.
