Britton hurls 6-hit shutout in 'Dogs 2-0 win

(Portland, Maine) - Drake Britton (5-5) tossed his first career complete game, a six-hit shutout, as the Portland Sea Dogs (33-28) beat the Erie SeaWolves (32-29) 2-0 in game one of a doubleheader at Hadlock Field. Game two was postponed due to rain and will be made up as a part of a twinbill on Wednesday night.

Britton dazzled over seven frames, scattering six hits, one walk and three strikeouts. In the seventh, Erie put two on with two outs, but the lefty retired Marcus Lemon on a groundout to seal the win.

Erie's Marcus Saupold (4-3) tossed a complete game in taking his second straight loss to Portland. Saupold yielded five hits and two runs over 6 IP.

Peter Hissey gave Portland a 1-0 lead in the second inning with a two-out RB double off the Maine Monster. Tony Thomas cleared the Monster in the sixth for his sixth homer of the season.

Britton held Erie 0-for-7 with runners-in-scoring position and threw 90 pitches (65 strikes). The lefty has allowed one earned run over his last 25 IP.

The complete game was the first since Billy Buckner's 7-inning gem last May 30th at Harrisburg. Felix Doubront had the last complete game shutout on July 22, 2009 at New Britain. Felix Diaz had the last complete game shutout at Hadlock Field on August 28, 2007 vs. Trenton.

The Sea Dogs and Erie SeaWolves (Tigers affiliate) will play a twinbill on Wednesday night at Hadlock Field beginning at 6:00 PM. Portland will have Knucklerballer Charlie Haeger (2-3, 4.54) and RHP Jeremy Kehrt (0-1, 3.57) make the starts in the double-dip.
