Reading Fightin Phils News Release

READING, Pa.---The Bowie Baysox hit back-to-back home runs in the eighth inning to send the Reading Fightin Phils to a 7-4 loss Tuesday night in front of 7,407 fans at FirstEnergy Stadium.

Reading entered the eighth inning leading Bowie by one run. The team grabbed the early lead in the third inning after quickly loading the bases to set the table for the top of the order. Edgar Duran appeared to have hit into a double play, but Baysox second baseman Josh Horton dropped the ball on the tag, causing two runs to score on the play. The Fightins tallied another run in the inning when Zach Collier walked with the bases loaded to put the team up by three runs over the Baysox.

Following Bowie's one-run fourth, Reading added to their lead when Tommy Mendonca continued his scalding pace by doubling to score Tyler Henson.

Bowie answered in sixth inning, though, scoring two runs off Reading starter Seth Rosin. The Baysox strung together three consecutive hits with one out in the inning before Rosin walked Seth Loman for the team's first run of the inning. Brandon Waring cut Reading's lead to one in the next at-bat on a sacrifice fly that plated Henry Urrutia.

A University of Minnesota product, Rosin was in line for the win after six innings and allowed three runs, two earned, on five hits while punching out five Baysox hitters and walking two.

Rosin's chances to improve his record to 4-4 on the season vanished when the game headed into the conclusive eighth inning. Loman and Waring hit back-to-back home runs off Reading reliever Kyle Simon to steal the lead. Acquired from the White Sox prior to today's game, Loman's blast came with two men on.

The Fightins had the tying run at the plate twice in the ninth thanks to two errors by the Bowie infield, but closer Marcel Prado struck out Henson and induced Jim Murphy to ground out to end the ballgame.

The Fightins will send Philadelphia Phillies starter and LHP John Lannan (ML Rehab) to the hill against the Baysox's RHP Eddie Gamboa (1-4, 4.45 ERA). Tune into Oldies 1340 WRAW-AM or MiLB.TV for the game broadcast with Fightins play-by-play announcer Anthony Oppermann starting at 6:35 p.m.

Fightins Fillers: Tommy Mendonca has hits in eight of his last 10 games. The 25-year old is batting .500 (18-for-36) in that stretch with four doubles, a triple, a home run, 12 RBIs, and four runs scored. He's 8-for-9 with runners in scoring position....Outfielder Anthony Hewitt is hitting .338 (23-for-68) with three doubles, four home runs, 12 RBIs, and 11 runs scored over a 23-game stretch.
