Bridwell, Doyle Shutout Erie
April 27, 2015 - Eastern League (EL1)
Chesapeake Baysox News Release
Starter Parker Bridwell set aside Erie batters for six shutout innings and then turned over the Keys to reliever Terry Doyle as the Baysox shutout Erie in the series opener Monday night 4-0. The win ended a three-game losing streak for the Baysox, and pushed Bowie back to .500 at 9-9 on the year.
Bridwell was in fine form from the start. He struck out four batters in the first two innings and was ahead in the count for the majority of the night. He went a season-high six inning to earn his first career Eastern league win. With his seven strikeout effort, Bridwell has now struck out 29 batters in 20 innings of work this year.
Doyle then entered and picked up from where Bridwell left off. He faced ten batters in three dominant innings for his first save of the year. The shutout was also the first for Bowie in 2015.
The Baysox got their offense via the double. DH Mike Yastrzemski doubled twice, setting up runs in the first and third innings. The Baysox then plated two more in the ninth inning. After a walk to 2B Derrik Gibson, C David Freitas doubled him home. Later in the frame Freitas scored on another double - this time by CF Glynn Davis.
Of Bowie's 11 hits, five of them were doubles. That is a season-high.
Bowie is back at it again with a game rescheduled to 4:05 p.m. Tuesday, April 28th in Erie. RHP Branden Kline will toe the slab for his fourth start of the season. Listen on 1430wnav.com or via the Tune-In Radio Free Application. Erie has lost six in a row entering the series.
Bowie returns home for a weekend series with the Washington Nationals Affiliate the Harrisburg Senators starting Friday, May 1st at 6:35 p.m. Get your tickets over the phone at 301-805-6000 or online at baysox.com.
