
Fisher Cats Open Trenton Series with 8-3 Win

MANCHESTER, NH--- Dwight Smith Jr. and Ryan Schimpf each drove in three runs to back strong starting pitching by Casey Lawrence as the Fisher Cats topped Trenton 8-3 on Monday at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
Lawrence (WP: 1-3) earned his first win in his fourth start of 2015. He allowed three runs on eight hits, walking one and striking out six. Danny Barnes and Blake McFarland each worked scoreless relief for New Hampshire.
The Fisher Cats (10-9) opened the scoring in the bottom of the third inning. Jack Murphy led off the frame with a walk and Dwight Smith Jr. reached on a fielders choice. Both runners scored on Ryan Schimpf's two-out double to make it 2-0. Melky Mesa then knocked Schimpf in with a double.
Trenton (10-8) cut the lead to 3-1 in the top of the fourth inning. Greg Bird doubled, moved to third on a single by Aaron Judge and scored on a sacrifice fly by Eric Jagielo.
New Hampshire added to the lead in the bottom of the inning with a three consecutive two-out hits. Kevin Nolan (3-for-4) and Jorge Flores singled with both runners scoring on Dwight Smith Jr.'s double for a 5-1 lead.
Mesa hit his first home run of the season in the bottom of the sixth inning for a 6-1 lead. Smith Jr. added a sacrifice fly and Schimpf doubled home Nolan in the sixth to make it 8-1.
Dante Bichette Jr. (3-for-4) drilled a two-run single for the Thunder in the top of the seventh inning .
Trenton starter Taylor Garrison (1-1) took the loss.
