Helena Brewers News Release

The Helena Brewers (8-11) split a doubleheader with the Grand Junction Rockies (11-10) on Friday at Suplizio Field in Colorado.

Helena would take game one by a score of 10-5 courtesy of a huge sixth inning.

Parker French was outstanding in the start for the Rockies. The righty pitched five shutout innings, giving up just three hits and striking out five. He would leave with a 2-0 lead and not receive a decision.

Grand Junction took the first lead with a run in the fourth. Michael Benjamin led off with a double and scored on the sacrifice fly of Chris Rabago. Benjamin would be the only Grand Junction player to start both games. He went 2-for-4 in the first game with a run scored and two strikeouts.

Christian Trent had another good outing for Helena, pitching four innings and giving up just one run. He allowed four hits and struck out three. He would leave with a 1-0 deficit, but not receive a decision.

The Brewers blew it wide open with nine runs in the top of the sixth. It would be the most runs Helena has scored in an inning this season. The frame would consist of seven hits including a double from Monte Harrison and a two-RBI single from George Iskenderian. Harrison had four hits over the two games, continuing his hot hitting as of late.

The win would hand Grand Junction their third straight loss.

The Rockies responded with an 8-4 win in game two.

Steven Karkenny and David Denson each hit solo homers for the Brewers early, but it would not be enough as Grand Junction posted two innings of at least three runs.

Chris Keck and Jensen Park each had three-run homers for the Rockies, who jumped a game over .500 with the win.

Jordan Yamamoto (0-3) was dealt the loss, giving up five runs in three innings on the hill. He would strike out six batters in the start.

The Brewers now head to Orem to face the Owlz in a three-game series. First pitch on Saturday from Brent Brown Ballpark is set for 7:15 p.m.
