Jacksonville, Fla. - James Parr pitched seven solid innings, facing the minimum during his final five, while the Suns pitching staff walked 12 batters as the Mississippi Braves (63-67, 21-39) took a 5-2 win over the Jacksonville Suns (77-53, 36-24) in front of 8,171 Thursday night at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

Jacksonville entered Friday in a first place tie with the Montgomery Biscuits. Montgomery and Jacksonville meet for five games over four days beginning August 31 at the Baseball Grounds, a series that will end the regular season.

Mississippi opened the scoring in the first inning against Suns starter Greg Miller, scoring on a bases loaded hit-by-pitch and bases loaded walk for a 2-0 lead. Miller walked seven Braves hitters in his three innings of work with one hit-by-pitch and one wild pitch, while holding Mississippi hitless.

The Suns rebounded with a run in the second inning when Juan Gonzalez singled home A.J. Ellis against Mississippi starter James Parr, cutting the Braves lead to 2-1.

Parr then settled in, facing the minimum over the last five innings of his seven-inning outing. Parr allowed one run on six hits with two walks and six strikeouts.

The Braves offense continued to build a lead in the fourth inning against Suns reliever Joey Norrito when Carl Loadenthal's sacrifice fly scored James Parr for a 3-1 lead. Mississippi's Parr and J.C. Holt drove home runs with RBI singles in the sixth inning against Norrito to extend the lead to 5-1.

Jacksonville's Kevin Howard hit a two-out, solo homerun in the eighth inning, his seventh of the season, off of reliever Rich Scalamandre to end the scoring at 5-2.

The Suns travel to Mobile, Alabama, opening a five-game series Saturday at Hank Aaron Stadium against the Mobile BayBears. Suns LH Clayton Kershaw is the probable starter. Fans can follow the action in Jacksonville on AM 930 The Fox or online at jaxsuns.com.
