Mobile BayBears News Release

MOBILE, AL - Rusty Ryal hit the first pitch of the bottom of the second inning out of Hank Aaron Stadium, for the only run of the game in the BayBears 1-0 win over Tennessee. The was a back and forth pitching duel between two players drafted last year, with BayBears righthander Brooks Brown (4-3) pitching seven scoreless innings and picking up the win, while Tennessee starter Jeff Samardzija (3-1) suffered his first Double-A loss, allowing just one run in six innings of work.

The BayBears have now won four straight games, and go to 66-64 overall in the 2007 season. The BayBears remain in third place, eight games behind first place Montgomery in the Southern League South.

Tennessee missed a chance to tie the game in the top of the ninth, when Nate Spears lined a pinch hit triple to right center field with no outs, but was left on base. With the BayBears infield in, back to back ground balls brought up pinch hitter Issmael Salas with the tying run at third base and two outs. Salas flied out to left field, just in front of the warning track, to end the game.

The BayBears final homestand of 2007 continues Saturday at 7:05, when RHP A.J. Shappi (1-7) faces the Jacksonville Suns in game one of a five game series.
