Braves sweep Bisons

RICHMOND, VA - The Richmond Braves swept a doubleheader from the Buffalo Bisons Saturday at The Diamond. The Braves rallied for a 10-6 win in eight innings in the opener and held off the Bisons 2-1 in the nightcap. It was the Braves third straight doubleheader sweep.

The Bisons struck first in the opener. Joe Inglett doubled a run home in the third to give Buffalo a 1-0 lead. Richmond answered with two in the home half on a two-run single by Carlos Mendez. The Bisons moved back in front in the fourth. Ryan Mulhern cracked a solo home run, Inglett chased a run home with a single, and Keith Ginter singled a run home to put the Bisons in front 4-2. Mulhern produced a run with a single in the fifth to make it 5-2. The Braves battled back with two in the home half. Gregor Blanco scored on an error and Mendez knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly. The Bisons bumped the lead back to two on an RBI single by Luis Rivas in the sixth. The Braves forced extra innings with a two run seventh. Mendez produced a run with a ground out and Bill McCarthy kept the Braves alive with a two-out RBI single. Richmond erupted for four runs in the eighth to win. Blanco singled the go-ahead run in and scored on an error. Martin Prado singled a run home and Brayan Pena smashed a home run.

Will Startup picked up the win. Bubbie Buzachero took the loss. Prado had three hits. Mendez knocked in four runs. Four Bisons had two hits each.

In the nightcap, the Braves struck in the first. Graham Koonce and Doug Clark drilled RBI doubles to put Richmond in front 2-0. The Bisons scored in the fifth on a solo home run by Brad Wallace. Brad Nelson, making his Triple-A debut, tossed 2.2 innings of scoreless relief to earn the win. Jake Dittler took a complete game loss.

The Braves and Bisons clash again in a doubleheader Sunday at 2 PM. Jeff Bennett and Jo Jo Reyes are the scheduled starters for the Braves. The Bisons will counter with Jeff Harris and a pitcher to be announced.
