CHARLESTON, SC - Rome's Paul Clemens and a trio of relievers mystified Charleston's bats as the Braves edged the RiverDogs, 2-1, in South Atlantic League action Sunday in front of 2,396 fans at Rome's State Mutual Stadium.

Clemens (3-3) earned the win as he threw 5.0 innings and surrendered one earned run on five hits and four walks while striking out five.

With the victory, the Braves avoid the series sweep and jump to 33-30 while the RiverDogs remain in first place in the Southern Division standings with a 37-26 record.

The RiverDogs jumped to an initial 1-0 advantage in the top of the first when David Adams drew a two-out walk and then sprinted around the bases to score the game's first run on Dan Brewer's double to center field.

Rome captured a 2-1 lead in the fifth frame when Joel Campusano sliced a single to right and advanced to second on Samuel Sime's infield single. Chais Fuller dropped a sacrifice bunt that moved the runners into scoring position and Campusano was knocked home when Chris Shehan grounded out. A fielding error by third baseman Corban Joseph on a groundball by Jahdiel Santamaria allowed Sime to score the eventual game-winning run.

The Braves relief trio of Angelo Paulino, Yeliar Castro, and Craig Kimbrel combined to stymie the RiverDogs scoreless and allowed two hits, one walk and eight strikeouts over the final four innings. Kimbrel earned his ninth save after he pitched the ninth to secure the victory.

RiverDogs starter Hector Noesi (2-4) suffered the defeat when he was charged two runs - one earned - on eight hits and one walk while striking out six in 6.2 innings on the mound.

Brewer collected two of the RiverDogs seven hits while the Braves smashed nine hits led by Campusano's three base knocks.

Charleston begins a three-game set against the Augusta GreenJackets, an affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, as the RiverDogs hand the ball to right-hander David Phelps (6-1, 3.03 ERA) while the GreenJackets counter with right-hander Mike Loree (3-4, 3.86 ERA) in the opening game of the series with first pitch set for Monday at 7:05 p.m.
