Asheville Tourists News Release
(Asheville, NC) - The Tourists and Legends played game two of a three-game series from McCormick Field Sunday afternoon, with Lexington topping Asheville by the score of 7-2. The Legends dominated the game, scoring 7 runs on 13 hits, while holding the Tourists to just 2 runs on 4 hits. Lexington starter Robert Bono was masterful, allowing just 2 runs (one ER) on 4 hits over 7.0 innings of work to earn his sixth win of the year.
Juan Nicasio took the mound for the Tourists, trying to repeat his last start, June 9 in Lexington, in which he carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning against these Legends. He was not as successful this afternoon, allowing 6 runs (5 earned) on 10 hits over 5.2 innings and striking out 5 batters.
The Tourists spotted Nicasio an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Scott Robinson led off with a double to center field. Thomas Field then lifted a deep fly ball to right field, and Robinson tagged at second to advance to third base. The relay throw to third from shortstop Jorge De Leon was wide of the bag, allowing Robinson to score from second and giving Asheville a one-run lead.
Lexington tied it up at 1-1 in the top of the fourth inning on an RBI single by Brian Pellegrini, and then poured things on in their next two trips at bat. The Legends posted two more runs in the top of the fifth on an RBI single from Jay Austin and an error by Ryan Peisel that allowed another run, making it 3-1 Lexington.
The Legends put things out reach with three more runs in the top of the sixth when Michael Diaz led off with a solo homerun. Freddy Hernandez singled behind him and Steve Brown followed with a base hit of his own. Ronald Ramirez laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners to second and third with one away. Jorge De Leon struck out for the second out of the inning, but Eric Suttle hit and infield single, plating Hernandez, and Jay Austin singled into left field to score Brown, giving the Legends a 6-1 lead.
Asheville got one back with a two-out RBI single by Jimmy Cesario in the bottom of the sixth, but it wasn't enough to get back in the contest.
Lexington added an insurance run in the top of the ninth on another RBI base hit from Brian Pellegrini to put the Legends up by the final score of 7-2.
The Tourists (24-39) and Legends (32-31) will meet for the finale of this three-game series Monday night at 7:05 pm. Asheville will send RHP Dan Houston (2-4, 4.39) to the mound to face Lexington RHP Kyle Greenwalt (3-6, 3.08).
