Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

KANNAPOLIS, NC - The Intimidators pitching staff fell apart late on Sunday night at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium, walking five in the eighth inning to push Greensboro to a 7-1 win.

Kannapolis had allowed just one run in their previous 22 innings going into the eighth inning. But three Intimidators pitchers could not hold it together, giving up six runs in the frame to see a 1-1 game swing to a comfortable Grasshoppers lead. Sergio Santos (0-1) got just one out, walking three straight batters to allow the go-ahead run to score.

Typically reliable Dan Remenowsky was next on the hill, but the Intimidators All Star closer also struggled to find the zone, issuing back-to-back bases-loaded walks. Another All Star, Tyler Kuhn, then made a fielding error at second base to allow two more runs to score. Remenowsky gave up two unearned runs without getting an out.

Kannapolis (33-29) had rallied from an early 1-0 deficit to square the game, using a Justin Greene RBI single in the sixth to even the contest.

Dexter Carter pitched well in his start, giving up just one run in six innings. The South Atlantic League strikeout leader fanned seven, but also gave up a solo home run to Ben Lasater in the fourth to allow Greensboro (31-30) to go ahead.

The ‘Hoppers bullpen was clutch, retiring the last seven batters in order. Wade Korpi (2-2) took the win with 2 1/3 scoreless innings.

Kannapolis now sits 4 ½ games behind first-place Lakewood with eight games to go in the first half.
