Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (November 30)- It was Fight Night at the NYTEX Sports Centre Friday evening as the Brahmas won big over Northeast foes, the Mississippi RiverKings 5-1.
The tough guys came out in the first as Brahmas enforcer Robin Big Snake and RiverKings forward Darrell Stoddard duked it out on the ice only seven minutes within the game.
After several more penalties, the Brahmas showed the fans some offense as Anders Strome whipped a goal past RiverKings netminder Sebastien Centomo. Forwards Scott Sheppard and Blair Manning were credited with the assists.
When the first ended, 15 penalties had been issued out, Big Snake and RiverKings defenseman Brian Mullally were sent to the showers early and the Brahmas had seven shots on goal as the RiverKings had nine.
The second started with the Brahmas on a 4-on-3 power play, and Texas took advantage. Brahmas defenseman Justin Kinnunen slid a goal past Centomo as Jordan Cameron and Blair Manning had the helpers.
The Brahmas second goal was followed by more penalties from both teams, resulting in two very crowded penalty boxes. Two fights broke out at the 12:13 mark which led to early exits to Texas' Tim Laurila and Mississippi's Steve Makway.
Amid all the penalties and chaos, Brahmas captain Blair Manning kept his eye on a win and at the 15:23 mark scored an unassisted goal. His third of the season put the Brahmas up 3-0.
In the winding seconds of the second period, Mississippi's winger Ryan Campbell was able to find a hole as he scored a power play goal for the RiverKings, upsetting Brahmas goaltender David Cacciola's contention for a shutout.
The third period was plagued with more penalties, 18 in total, but included more Texas goal scoring as well. Brahmas forward Grant Jacobsen assisted on a Jordan Cameron goal at 7:15 in the third putting the Brahmas up 4-1. Brahmas forward Anders Strome put the icing on the cake on a bizarre night for the Brahmas as he scored a goal from Mark Carragher and Justin Kinnunen.
If Brahmas fans wanted entertainment, they received it Friday night as Mississippi had 131 total penalty minutes on 27 infractions and Texas had 108 total penalty minutes on 29 infractions.
The Brahmas swept the three stars of the night as Blair Manning was number three, Anders Strome second and goaltender David Cacciola the first star of the night.
The Texas Brahmas next game is tomorrow night, December 1 at the NYTEX Sports Centre. The Brahmas will host the Youngstown SteelHounds for a 7:05 PM Northeast matchup. The first 1,000 fans will receive a puck courtesy of JMC Motorplex.
