The Rayz improved to 5-11-1 and handed the Bucks their first Southern Conference regulation loss this season. The Rayz will now return home for a season high, five-game homestand beginning on Sunday. The Bucks and Rayz played a wide open first period with plenty of scoring chances. The Bucks had the majority of quality chances while the Rayz had the single best chance when Joe Blaznek struck the left post from just outside the crease on a Corpus Christi power play. According to the Laredo Entertainment Center, the Bucks outshot the Rayz 15-6 in the period.
The Bucks broke the scoreless tie early in the second period when rookie Brent MacSween rushed down the right wing side and tuck the puck in behind Jason Tapp for his ninth goal at 1:12. The Bucks outshot the Rayz 12-3 in the period and took a 1-0 lead into the final frame.
The Rayz erupted in the third for three straight goals to take the lead. Geno Parrish tied the score at 9:44 with a wrist shot from the top of the right circle. The Rayz then took their first advantage on a power play when Justin Quenneville found Brent Howarth at the right edge of the slot and fed him for the 2-1 Rayz lead at 15:04. Joe Blaznek added the insurance marker at 17:56 when he picked off a pass at the Rayz blue line while Corpus was shorthanded and raced into the Bucks end, and deflected a puck off Traylen and into the net for a 3-1 lead. The Bucks got within one on a shorthanded, extra attacker goal when Igor Agarunov scored a wrap around marker at 19:38, but Tapp and the Rayz held on for their first win over Laredo this season. The win was also the Rayz first this season in regulation and snapped Laredo's winning streak at four games.
Tapp made 39 saves on 41 shots. He earned the win, improving to 5-9-1. Traylen took the loss falling to 10-4-1 turning aside 17 of 20 shots. The Rayz went 1-8 on the power play and the Bucks were 0-6. The Bucks outshot the Rayz 41-20.
