Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

TULSA, OK - Mudbugs Captain Chris Brassard scored the 500th point of his professional hockey career Saturday afternoon as Bossier-Shreveport defeated Tulsa 3-0.

Brassard's third period goal was the 204th of his career, combining with his 296 career assists for 500 points in a professional hockey career that has now spanned ten years. Ryan Fairbarn scored the other two goals and John DeCaro registered his third shutout of the season in the Mudbugs ninth victory in their past 11 games.

A good first period start for the 'Bugs was cashed in when Tulsa's Martin Kubaliak and Matt Smyth were issued penalties to give the Mdubugs an extended two-man advantage. The Mudbugs would capitalize on the 5 on 3 opportunity when Ryan Fairbarn one-timed a Justin Aikins feed past goaltender

Kevin St. Pierre for a 1-0 Mudbugs lead. That's how the first period would end with Bossier-Shreveport outshooting Tulsa 9-7 in the opening frame.

Tulsa came out stronger in the second period, but the Mudbugs held them off long enough to add to the lead. Joe Ori corralled the puck in neutral ice and sprinted into the offensive zone before leaving a drop pass for Fairbarn, who fired a blistering slapshot past St. Pierre for his second goal of the game and third in the past two games. Bossier-Shreveport led 2-0 after two periods.

Then Brassard's big moment came in the third period after a offensive zone steal by Brett Smith. Smith stole the puck from a Tulsa defenseman and gave it to Karlis Zirnis. Rather than take the shot, Zirnis passed to Brassard in the slot. Brassard beat St. Pierre for the historic point, which was also his seventh goal of the season. John DeCaro did the rest as Bossier-Shreveport shut out the Oilers for the second time this year.

DeCaro made 27 saves to win his seventh consecutive start and advance his record to 7-3-1. The Oilers actually outshot the Mudbugs 27-25 in the game.

Up next for Bossier-Shreveport is a home game on Tuesday night against the Oklahoma City Blazers. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster or by calling 318-752-BUGS.
