Laredo Bucks News Release
LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell to the Corpus Christi Rayz 3-2 Saturday night in front of 4,372 fans at the Laredo Entertainment Center. The Loss snaps the Bucks four game winning streak, and puts Laredo at 15-4-1 (31 points).
The Bucks, who outshot the Rayz 41-20, held a 1-0 lead going into the third period, when the Rayz erupted for three goals to take the victory.
The Rayz picked up their third straight win, and second on the road.
The Rayz (5-11-1) tied the game at one at the 9:44 mark of the third when Geno Parrish scored for Corpus. The Rayz then took a 2-1 lead just minutes later at the 15:04 mark when Brent Howarth scored from the right crease off of a nice feed from Justin Quennville. Corpus extended their lead to 3-1 at the 17:56 mark of the third when Joe Blaznek scored a short-handed goal off of a break. Bucks goaltender Dustin Traylen made the initial save, but the puck bounced high in the air and landed across the line giving the Rayz the goal.
The Bucks (8-2 at home) Igor Agarunov scored with just 22 seconds left in the game to bring the Bucks within one at 3-2 with their net empty. The Rayz held on for the final 22 seconds for the win.
The first period was scoreless as both goaltenders stopped all the shots they faced, with the Bucks outshooting the Rayz 15-6. Bucks goalie Dustin Traylen stopped all six Rayz shots, while Corpus goalie Jason Tapp set aside all 15 Laredo shots. Laredo came up empty on two first period power-play opportunities.
The Bucks took a 1-0 lead just 1:12 into the second period as Brent MacSween scored from the right crease past Tapp. It was MacSween's ninth goal of the season, and it was assisted by Rane Carnegie and Steve Weidlich. The assist was Weidlich's first point of the season as he missed the first month with an injury.
The Bucks outshot the Rayz in the second period 12-3, as Tapp stopped 11 of 12 Bucks shots, and Traylen set aside all three Rayz attempts in the period.
Traylen (10-4-1) took the loss in net stopping 17 of the 20 Rayz shots, while Tapp (5-8-1) picked up the hard fought win stopping 39 of the Bucks 41 shots.
The Bucks are right back in action Sunday afternoon as they will host the Odessa Jackalopes at 4:00pm. Family four pack tickets are available starting at $48 by calling 718-BUCK (2825).
