Fort Worth Brahmas News Release

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas - It was a season opener to forget in some aspects for the Brahmas as they fell 5-2 Friday night at the Allen Events Center.

Just as the Americans raised their Conference banner they were soon raising their sticks following opening faceoff when Alexander Quesnal beat Brahmas goaltender Kevin Beech :22 seconds into the game. Beech continued to struggle, giving up two more goals in a matter of minutes, earning an early trip to the bench in favor of rookie netminder Wayne Savage at the 4:19 marker of the first period. Brahmas forward Tyler Allen took the lingering "let's go Allen" chants in the Allen Events Center personal as he posted his first career goal with just under 12:00 minutes remaining in the first to give Texas a two goal deficit into the first intermission.

Texas made it a 3-2 game when Greg Hogeboom sent goaltender Chris Whitley's water bottle dancing on his net when he went top shelf with a shot from the point on the powerplay. Assists were from Jason Krischuk and Chad Woollard.

A third period American goal by Liam Huculak set off more than just the light for the Americans as fisticuffs between Texas' Steven Later and Dustin Donaghy brought fans to their feet with 1:31 remaining in the game. A fifth and final goal was scored in the empty net for the 5-2 Brahmas loss.

The Brahmas face the Americans once again tomorrow night at the Allen Events Center for a 7 pm faceoff. Texas hosts their home opener next weekend, Friday, October 22 when they face the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees for a 7:30 pm faceoff. Home opening weekend will continue Saturday, October 23 when the I-20 rivalry begins with the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs coming to the NYTEX Sports Centre for a 7:30 game. For ticket information, please contact the Brahmas Box Office at (817) 336-4423 or visit www.brahmas.com.

- Despite losing the first game of the season, the Brahmas have a great track record with a 0-1 start. The last time the Brahmas found themselves in this position: the 2008-09 season-the same year Texas won the CHL Championship.
