
Bucks Fall in Opener 4-2

HIDALGO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell to the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 4-2 Friday night at State Farm Arena in the season opener for both teams. The Bucks fall to 0-1 while the Bees improve to 1-0 on the season.
The Bees scored three unanswered goals in the third period to erase a 2-1 deficit as they beat the Bucks in regulation for the first time since March of 2009.
The Bees scored two goals in less than one minute in the third as Rob Cowan (6:12) put the Bees up 3-2 less than a minute after Sean Muncy (5:35) tied the game at 2-2.
Serge Dube gave the Bucks a 2-1 lead just 1:33 into the third period when he scored a four-on-four goal from the left circle. Neil Trimm and Jeff Bes picked up the assists.
Bes had two assists on the night to move to eight points away from 1,000 in his career.
Tyler Burton scored an empty net goal with just 32 seconds left to make it 4-2 Bees.
Each team put up 12 shots in the third period with the Bucks being outshot in the game 34-31.
Juliano Pagliero stopped 29 of 31 in net for the Bees while Pier Pelletier set aside 31 of 34 to lose his first game in regulation in 13 games dating back to last season (9-1-2).
The game was scoreless after the first period as neither team was able to light the lamp. The Bucks outshot the Bees 11-9 in the first 20 minutes.
The Bees jumped out in front of the Bucks as they took a 1-0 lead 6:06 into the second period. Aaron Lee chipped home a backhanded rebound attempt from the right side of the crease to put the Bees on top.
Laredo tied the game at 1-1 just 1:16 later when Chris Korchinski hammered in a shot from the bottom of the right circle with the Bucks on the power-play. Korchinski took a pass from Bes, who was behind the net, and scored on a one-timer.
The Bucks were outshot 13-8 in the second period.
The Bucks and Bees will battle again Saturday night at State Farm Arena.
