Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas - The Brahmas six game winning streak was snapped as they fell to the Oklahoma City Blazers 4-3 in a shootout Saturday night at the packed NYTEX Sports Centre.
Scoring started early with an Oklahoma City even strength goal from Marc Connors just :36 in the opening period. The Brahmas found themselves down 2-0 two minutes later when the Blazers were able to convert on the powerplay from D.J. Jelitto.
Defenseman Mike Vellinga put the Brahmas back into the swing of things when he recorded his first goal of the season from Grant Jacobsen on a Texas powerplay at the 5:38 mark in the first. Brahmas goaltender Brett Jaeger faced 17 shots.
Jacobsen continued on his scoring rampage as he collected a pass from Kevin Korol and Scott Sheppard to put it past Blazers netminder Jason Wolfe on the powerplay in the second. Blazers left wing Ryan Watson returned the favor with his own powerplay goal at the 13:46 mark putting Oklahoma City up 3-2.
The night was in Jacobsen's favor as he scored a highlight reel shorthanded goal in the final period to push the game into overtime. The extra period resulted in only five total shots between the two clubs.
Texas and Oklahoma City went into the shootout where the Blazers were able to put two shots behind Jaeger, ultimately winning the contest. Brahmas forward Jordan Cameron scored the lone shootout goal for Texas.
The Brahmas travel to Oklahoma City for a rematch at 6:05 PM against the Blazers tomorrow night.
