Rocky Mountain Rage News Release

Broomfield, Colo. - The Rocky Mountain Rage was defeated tonight by the Mississippi RiverKings for the second time in as many games between the two teams in the regular season. With the help of a hat trick by Chad Woollard, the RiverKings finished by a 6-2 margin at the Broomfield Event Center.

The top five teams from each conference in the Central Hockey League move onto the playoffs. Tonight's CHL games currently puts the Rage in third place and the RiverKings tied for fourth place in the Northern Conference. Both teams are separated by just two points. The Rage is currently 34-18-5 (73 points) for second place in the Northwest Division. It marked only the second time this season that the Rage has not been in first place in the division. The RiverKings own a 34-20-3 (71 points) overall record for second place in the Northeast Division.

In tonight's game, Rocky Mountain came out with the early momentum outshooting the RiverKings 10-1 after the first 10 minutes of the first period, but the Rage were kept scoreless. Mississippi earned the lead in the first period with two goals both scored after a turnover leading into a breakaway opportunity. Woollard struck first at 13:10 followed by Jason Lawmaster at 16:46.

The RiverKings extended their lead in the second period with a wrist shot from Woollard over the left shoulder of Rage goaltender Scott Reid at 2:59. It marked his second goal of the game and a team-high 32nd goal of the season.

Louis Dumont added another goal for Mississippi at 4:09 of the third period before the Rage was able to answer back. Rocky Mountain's Daymen Rycroft wristed the puck in net from an across-ice pass by Pat Sutton at 6:41. Rycroft's goal hardly made a dent though as Woollard and Aaron Davis made back-to-back tallies at 8:13 and 8:33, respectively, to give the RiverKings a 6-1 lead. Rocky Mountain's Brent Cullaton fired a slap shot just inside the right post at 13:01 to close out scoring in the game.

Rocky Mountain returns to action Tuesday (March 11) at the Broomfield Event Center for their final home game in the regular season against in-state rival the Colorado Eagles. The teams hold onto the top two spots in the race for the Northwest Division title with seven games remaining.
