Cullaton Leads the Way in CHL's Annual Best of the Best Poll
March 8, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release
Broomfield, Colo. - The Central Hockey League released its annual Best of the Best Poll today, and the Rocky Mountain Rage's Brent Cullaton led all players league-wide with top-three recognition in seven different categories. Players, coaches, and broadcasters/PR personnel from each of the league's 17 teams voted the Rage captain as the CHL's Best Playmaker, Best Leader, and Most Gentlemanly Player. Voters provided three top choices for each category, with first place votes worth five points, second place votes three points, and third place votes one point.
Daymen Rycroft also garnered the respect of the rest of the league by being named Best on the Power Play and Most Underrated Player. The fourth-year pro is having a career year with a CHL-high 45 goals this season, 19 more than his previous personal best. Rycroft leads the league with 22 power play tallies and is currently tied for fifth with 79 points overall.
In addition to the three categories he won, Cullaton also received recognition as the CHL's Best Overall Player (2nd behind Laredo's Jeff Bes), Best Skater (2nd), Smartest Player (2nd), and Best on the Power Play (3rd). The 12th-year pro is currently second in the league with 67 assists (a league-best 36 coming on the power play) and fourth with 85 points, both new career highs.
The Rage organization caught the league's attention in four categories: Best Press Box (1st), Best Team Uniforms (2nd), Best Team Logo (3rd), and Best On-ice Promotions (3rd). The City of Broomfield was voted the league's third-best city behind Oklahoma City and Austin.
As a whole, Rocky Mountain finished among the top three vote-getters in 13 categories, behind only the Oklahoma City Blazers (26) and Colorado Eagles (14).
