Corpus Christi IceRays News Release

The Central Hockey League's annual "Best of the Best" Poll results were announced on Saturday afternoon, and the Corpus Christi Rayz received four awards in the league-wide survey poll. The Rayz were recognized for excellence in four different categories. The Rayz earned first place in one category and third place in three categories. Rayz forward Justin Quenneville was named the third Most Underrated Player in the CHL. Rayz broadcaster, Josh Bogorad was named the Best Broadcaster in the CHL. The Rayz also took home awards for third best press box and third best arena concession food. The top three vote getters in 45 different categories were named in the poll completed by all 17 CHL Teams. The Best of the Best Poll rewards individuals and teams for on and off the ice achievement. The poll marked the fourth straight season that the Rayz have placed first in at least one category.

Quenneville, 24, was last year's Rayz team MVP and an MVP finalist last season. Injuries have plagued this season for Quenneville, forcing him to miss 17 games. However, despite lengthy absences, Quenneville is still second on the Rayz in goals and fourth in points, with 22 of each in only 39 games. Quenneville's most underrated award is the third straight year a Corpus Christi forward has been honored in that category. Last season Derrick McIver won first place in that award, and in 2005-2006 Ryan Carter did.

Bogorad won first place in the Best Broadcaster category for the first time. Last season Bogorad received third place in the category. He was also named the 2007 CHL Communications Executive of the Year. He was named to the CHL All-Star Broadcast team in 2005 and 2007. The Los Angeles, CA native is currently in his fifth season of broadcasting for the Rayz.

Additional third place awards went to the Rayz for having one of the top press boxes in the league, and one of the top arena concessions at the American Bank Center. Voting for the Best of the Best Poll is conducted by each of the 17 teams in the CHL. Each team submits their top three choices for each category, with first place votes counting as five points, second place votes counting as three points and third place votes counting as a single point. The votes are then tabulated and released by the league.
