Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (October 30)- The Texas Brahmas and Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs renewed their rivalry Friday evening in Louisiana, and it was a bull market for Texas as they defeated Bossier 6-4.
It was Joe Palmer who received the nod to start in goal for Texas, and the Mudbugs did not give him long to warm up as Tyler Liebel lit the lamp on the first shot of the game. Texas' powerplay went on the job later in the first on a Jeo Blaznek interference goal. Brahmas forward Jason Deitsch gave the ailing Texas powerplay just what it needed when he beat 'Bugs goalie Ken Carroll on a pass from Craig Minard and A.J. Gale. The Brahmas went up 2-1 when Dan Welch, Texas' newly acquired forward from Colorado, scored his first in purple and black.
Brett Smith evened things out with a Mudbugs goal in the second, the lone tally in the middle frame. Lee Jubinville took advantage of an open net when Carroll was caught out of position for his first professional goal and the Texas lead. The I-20 rivalry heated up when Bossier's Shawn Limpright fired a shot past Palmer for the tie.
Justin Kinnunen proved why he has been an All-Star two straight years when Carroll misread a dump-in from center ice that crept its way into his crease and into the back of the net. The Texas offense took advantage of the momentum resulting in a goal by A.J. Gale, his fifth goal of the season. Gale leads all rookies in scoring in the league with 7 points (3 G, 4A). With last ditch efforts the Mudbugs pulled Carroll for the extra attacker following a Brahmas penalty for a 6 on 4 man advantage. With Jason Deitsch in the box, 'Bugs own Joe Zappala kept things tight scoring on Palmer two seconds in the powerplay.
Texas' game plan proved to be too much for the 'Bugs when Tyler Skworchinski scored on an empty net for the Texas win. Palmer earned his first victory of the season stopping 30 of 34 shots.
Tomorrow night the Brahmas host the Allen Americans for a little "Hockey"ween action at 7:05 PM the NYTEX Sports Centre. Fun Halloween activities begin at 6:05 PM and fans who attend wearing their costumes will receive a free ticket to an upcoming Brahmas game. The first 1000 fans when the doors open will be given a 2009-10 Brahmas magnet schedule. For tickets please contact the Brahmas at (817) 336-4423.
