Bucks Beat CHL Leading Amarillo 5-2

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League beat the Amarillo Gorillas 5-2 Friday night, in front of 4,752 fans at the Laredo Entertainment Center. With the win the Bucks snap their two game winless streak and improve to 3-1-1 (seven points), while the Gorillas fall to 5-2 (10 points).

Darryl Smith had his second multi-goal game of the season, while J.P Levassuer set aside 28 of 30 shots to pick up the win in net to snap the Bucks five-game home losing streak.

Laredo improved to 8-0-1 all-time against Amarillo at the LEC.

The Bucks jumped out in front of the Gorillas to take a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.

Smith put the Bucks up 1-0 just 2:27 into the game when he scored his third goal of the year off of a backhander in the slot. Jeff Bes and Jarred Mohr picked up the assists.

Mohr would make it 2-0 Bucks when he scored on a breakaway goal off of a pass from P.J Corsi with 4:57 left in the first. Mohr was coming out of the penalty box when Corsi found him wide open past the defense.

Laredo would increase their lead to 3-0 just 34 seconds later when Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel scored on a slap shot from the top of the left circle. The goal was Dieude-Fauvel's second of the year, with Corsi and Maxime Lincourt picking up assists.

Laredo was outshot in the first period 12-11.

The Bucks increased their lead to 4-0 with 6:17 left in the second when they struck on their first power-play chance of the game. Bes deflected an Adam Rivet shot into the back of the net for his second of the season. Bes passed Alex Kholomeyev for 15th place all-time in CHL history with 519 points.

Laredo outshot Amarillo in the second period 12-10.

Amarillo would cut into the the Bucks lead as they struck twice in 37 seconds to make it 4-2 Laredo with 15 minutes left in the third.

Joe Guenther scored both Amarillo goals to increase his league-leading total to nine.

Smith put the Bucks up 5-2 when he scored on a four-on-three power-play with 2:37 left in the third period.

The Bucks outshot the Gorillas in the third 11-8, and 34-30 for the game.

Mike Brown suffered the loss in net for Amarillo as he stopped 29 of 34 shots.
