Charleston RiverDogs News Release
CHARLESTON - The Charleston RiverDogs, the Class-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, have placed third baseman Bradley Suttle on the 7-day disabled list with a hip flexor strain. He will be replaced on the roster by right-handed pitcher Gabe Medina, who was previously on the Gulf Coast Yankees roster.
Suttle was removed in the 11th inning of Saturday's 4-3 victory over the Rome Braves after doubling to right-centerfield to lead off the frame, which was his second hit of the game.
The University of Texas product started his inaugural season in the South Atlantic League (SAL) hitting at a .500 clip through the first seven games to lead the league. He has made nine starts this season, predominately at the hot corner, and currently ranks eighth in the SAL with a .368 average with one home run and three RBI.
Medina is no stranger to the Lowcountry, as this will mark his third stint in Charleston. He appeared in 15 games with the RiverDogs last season, posting a 3-2 record with a 3.83 ERA. The former Division II Pitcher of the Year from Emporia State University (Kan.) has not pitched professionally since July 22 of last year after going on the disabled list.
In his last two starts before his injury, Medina registered a 2-0 record, while allowing just one run and five hits in 12.1 innings pitched with one walk and 10 strikeouts. The Venezuela native also appeared in four games with the RiverDogs in 2006, finishing with a 0-0 record and a 2.70 ERA.
