Captains take the finale in Hagerstown

(Hagerstown, MD) - After being shutout in both games of the doubleheader on Saturday the Captains erupted for nine runs en route to a 9-7 victory over the Hagerstown Suns on Sunday. The Captains had a team high 14 hits. The Captains also struck out 15 times. The Suns made a game of it as the Captains lead 9-3 going into the bottom of the eighth. The Suns scored four times but the Captains hung on to win. The Captains took a 2-0 in the first inning. Roman Pena singled as did Karexon Sanchez, Pena taking third. After Dustin Realini struck out, Matt Brown hit a double to left center that scored both runners. The Captains went ahead 3-0 when they added another run in the fourth inning. Brown would hit another double and then score on Jeff Hehr's double.

The Suns would get two unearned runs off Captains starter Ryan Miller. With two on in the bottom of the fifth inning Dan Lyons hit a slow roller to the right of the pitchers mound. Miller picked up the ball and over threw first baseman Chris Nash and both runners scored to make it 3-2 after five innings. Miller picked up his second win in as many starts going the first five innings giving up the two unearned runs on only two hits while striking out four and walking three.

The Captains broke it open in the seventh inning by scoring six runs highlighted by two 2 RBI hits by Roman Pena and Dustin Realini. Doug Pickens and Brown picked up RBI's as well. Brown leads the club with eight RBI's. The Suns made it interesting by scoring four runs in the eighth inning off of reliever Gary Campfield. Two of the runs were unearned. Vinnie Pestano relieved Campfield in the eighth inning and pitched a scoreless ninth to preserve the victory. Miller would pick up his second win of the year and Pestano his third save.

The Captains return to Classic Park on Monday for a brief two game series and home stand against the Lakewood BlueClaws, the Class A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies. Game time is 7:05 PM. RHP Santo Frias gets the start for the Captains and RHP Tyson Brummet for the BlueClaws.

Monday marks the return of Buck Night where hot dogs, beer, and soda are only a dollar. Fans can also get $1 off any adult box seat ticket. Tuesday is a business person's special with game time at 12:05 PM. Don't miss Frostbite Night on Friday, April 18th, where all fans will receive a free ticket to a future game if the temperature falls below 40 degrees.
