Kannapolis, NC - The Intimidators scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth to come from behind to topple Hickory 5-3 at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium.

The Intimidators trailed 3-0 heading into the bottom of the eighth when Mike Grace led off with an infield single. He advanced to second on a throwing error. A second Hickory error let Danny Jordan get aboard with one out and scored Mike Grace from third base. Joe Persichina followed with a single to place runners at first and second in a 3-1 game. Andrew Mead grounded to third but the throw to second to cut down Persichina was late so the bases were loaded with one out down two runs.

Christian Marrero grounded back to the pitcher and it looked like the inning may end on a 1-2-3 doubleplay. But the catcher, Ronald Pena, threw over the head of the first baseman Miles Durham to bring in two runs and tie the game at three.

Jose Martinez drove in Marrero to take the lead. Martinez scored on a Logan Johnson single to right field to make the final tally 5-3.

The game began with a pitchers duel between Charlie Shirek for Kannapolis and Rafael De Los Santos for Hickory. Both lasted at least six innings and did not surrender an earned run.

The series finishes up tomorrow. The Intimidators try for the split with a 7:05pm first pitch.
