Boyes added to AHL All-Star roster

SPRINGFIELD, MA ... American Hockey League President and CEO David Andrews announced today that St. John's Maple Leafs forward Brad Boyes has been named to the Canadian team roster for this weekend's 2003 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic in Portland, Maine.

Boyes was selected as the Maple Leafs' representative to replace Alexei Ponikarovsky, who will miss the event due to injury. Boyes, 20, is in his rookie season after being selected by Toronto as the 24th overall pick in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. The native of Mississauga, Ont., has 17 goals and 21 assists for 38 points in 51 games with St. John's this year.

Andrews also announced that the following players will be unable to participate in the 2003 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic: Cleveland's Jim Fahey (recall), Worcester's John Pohl (injury) and Providence's Rich Brennan (injury), who had been slated to make his record-setting seventh career AHL All-Star appearance. Added to the starting lineups in place of injured or recalled players are Binghamton's Jason Spezza and Portland's Maxime Ouellet for Canada, as well as Hamilton's Mike Komisarek and Portland's Chris Ferraro for PlanetUSA.

The 2003 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic will take place at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland, Maine, home of the AHL's Portland Pirates. The event gets underway on Sunday, February 2, with the 2003 Pepsi AHL All-Star Skills Competition at 8:00 p.m. ET, and concludes with the annual All-Star Game at 7:00 p.m. ET on Monday, February 3. The 2003 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic will be televised to 60 million households on 15 regional television partners in the United States and on Rogers Sportsnet nationally in Canada.
