New York Boulders News Release
(Newark, NJ) Ryan Scoma's three run double in the top of the seventh would prove to be the deciding factor in the first game of the double header, as the Boulders beat the Bears 7-4.
In the shortened seven-inning game due to Can-Am league rules during double headers, Newark stormed out of the gate early. Daryl Ward hit a three run dinger off of Rockland starter Pat Moran in the bottom of the first. The Bears would add another run in the inning as Eric McGee tripled and was brought home on a Bryce Lane sacrifice fly.
But just as the last two games showed, the Boulders would battle back. In the top of second, Rockland got on the scoreboard after a Cole Kraft triple that drove in Ryan Scoma to make the score 4-1.
Rockland added another two runs in the top of the third as newly acquired left fielder Jon Smith scored on a Keith Brachold sacrifice fly. Ryan Mollica would then knock in Chris Valencia on a two-out double to make the tally 4-3.
In his first game as a Boulder, Smith would then double in the fourth to bring in the tying run. Both offenses would then go quiet as it looked like it may take more than seven innings to determine a winner.
But seven would be all that Rockland needed as the Boulders would load the bases with two-outs on Millender and Mollica walks and Brachold reaching on an error. The hero of the afternoon would be Scoma who launched a bases-clearing double to make the score 7-4.
Adrian Martin would come on in the bottom half of the seventh to shut the door and guarantee Rockland's second straight victory.
The Boulders and Bears will play again tonight in the second half of the double header.
