Offensive Outburst lifts Boulders over Bears 12-5

June 5, 2012 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
New York Boulders News Release

(Newark, NJ) Chris Valencia and Ryan Scoma had four RBI's apiece as Rockland swept the double header by beating the Bears in the nightcap 12-5.

Just like the early game, the Bears found the scoreboard first, taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third on a Juan Martinez double that scored shortstop Alex Bardeguez.

It did not take long for the Boulders to take over the momentum and the game. In the top of the fourth, the Rockland bats erupted for eight runs. First baseman Ryan Scoma's success at the plate continued, as he would start the scoring barrage with a two-run home run to give the Boulders a 2-1 lead. Scoma hit the game winning double in the afternoon contest and added another four RBI's in the nightcap. Scoma's home run would only be the start of things for Rockland. Chris Valenica would knock in two-runs on a one-out single to make the score 4-1. The key play would come on an error by Bears first baseman Daryl Ward that would score three base runners and raise the tally to 7-1. Ryan Mollica would finish the scoring run by blasting a double to score Keith Brachold and make it an eight run fourth inning.

Newark would make up some of the deficit in the bottom of the 4th by going on a scoring streak of it's own, off of Rockland starter Julian Sampson. The Bears would score four runs in the inning including a two-run home run from Bryce Lane and another RBI double from Juan Martinez to make the score 8-5.

But that would be the last noise the Bears would make as the Boulders secured their victory by adding four more runs, including a two-run home run from Chris Valencia and two RBI doubles from Scoma to make the final score 12-5.

Rockland finishes its three game series against Newark tomorrow at 11:05 AM. The Boulders then have Thursday off and head to Worcester for a weekend set against the Tornadoes starting Friday. Rockland then returns home on June 15th, as they will take on Worcester on Bring Down Boston night at Provident Bank Park in part of a three game weekend series.
