New York Boulders News Release
(Pomona, N.Y.) -The Rockland Boulders, still flying high after their four consecutive wins against the Shikoku Island All-Stars, came into today's game hoping to keep their winning streak going.
Rockland appeared to be off to a good start executing some key defensive plays including an out from Junior Arrojo. However, despite two simultaneous doubles from Stephen Cardullo and Steve Nyisztor, the Boulders could not pick up any runs in their first at bat.
Subsequently, Kenny Bryant stunned the crowd with a homerun in the next inning, followed by an RBI single from Chris Valencia earning Sussex County a 2 run advantage. Rockland fought back with a double which resulted in a run from Charlie Law reducing the deficit to 2-1.
The Miners kept their run streak going thanks to Devin Taut who earned a triple. The Boulders reinforced their defense with an impressive double play shutting down Reggie Abercrombie from scoring as he slid into home plate, but the Miners maintained a two run advantage.
Both teams made several attempts at runs, with no success. The action picked up again in the sixth inning as Sussex County increased their lead to 5-1 snatching two runs. Rockland struggled to prevent their opponent from getting any further ahead, proving somewhat successful with Ryan Fisher leading off a series of great catches.
Sussex County's run streak came to a halt with a strikeout from Jayson Hernandez. Stephen Cardullo seized this perfect opportunity to change the course of the game earning a run which decreased the deficit to only three runs.
Stefen Henderson kept the momentum going as he shot a colossal homerun in the bottom of the ninth bringing the score to 5-3. Despite their efforts, the Rockland Boulders suffered a 5-3 loss against the Sussex County Miners. Better luck tomorrow, Boulders.
Come out to Provident Bank Park tomorrow at 7:00 PM to see the Boulders face off a second time against the Miners.
