Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
FARGO, N.D. - Two runs in the ninth were all the Boulders needed to stall a RedHawks comeback, as Rockland defeated the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 4-2 Monday at Newman Outdoor Field.
Rockland (41-38) was able to get two runners on base with one out in the ninth after a walk, a fielder's choice and a single. Fargo-Moorhead (51-30) reliever Nate Kilcrease came in to face Steve Nyisztor, but hit him with the first pitch to load the bases.
Kilcrease forced Scott Knazek to popout for the second out, before Matt Nandin came up and hit a two-run single for the Boulders to put Rockland ahead for good.
The RedHawks were able to get the tying run on first in the ninth. Buddy Sosnoskie walked and Clint Ourso singled in the ninth to put runners on the corners with two outs as the RedHawks attempted a comeback, but a rally was halted on a called third strike on Zach Penprase to end the game.
Fargo-Moorhead tied the game at 1-1 in the fourth on a Tim Alberts RBI double and 2-2 in the seventh on a Todd Jennings RBI double, but the RedHawks never led in the game.
Fray Martinez (3-7) pitched 2/3 inning in the relief victory. Rockland starter Bo Budkevics threw six innings and allowed only three hits and one earned run, while striking out six. Kevin Fuqua earned his 16th save of the season pitching a scoreless ninth.
RedHawks starter Danny Gutierrez went six-plus innings in the no-decision. He allowed two runs on five hits with seven strikeouts. Derrick Miramontes pitched an inning of scoreless relief, while Ethan Opsahl dropped to 1-1 after he pitched 1 1/3 innings and was responsible for the two runners that scored in the ninth.
Both teams had seven hits in the game. Rockland's Jaren Matthews and Fargo-Moorhead's Keith Brachold were the only players with multi-hit games.
The RedHawks and Boulders continue the four-game series at 7:02 p.m. Tuesday at Newman Outdoor Field. Tickets are available at fmredhawks.com or by calling (701) 235-6161.
